Two Canvasses - a Diptych - An artwork consisting of two pieces or panels (a pair) that together create a singular art piece.
I took inspiration from some school art I'd seen on Pinterest. I loved what had been achieved with a very simple technique. It looked like the originals may have been created with paper circles positioned over a painted background, or possibly the black parts of the background may also have been paper pieces. I have made this more challenging for myself by painting all aspects of the design and I liked the concept so much that I decided to make two and present them together as one, a diptych.
For today, all I did was draw out my designs. I have still not unearthed my art materials so I got to work using my son's Spirograph set again which had worked so well for me on my last piece. Next job was painting the black onto the background of canvas B. This was time consuming and needed several layers of paint to get the solid colour I like. Not my most enjoyable part of this piece and I still have canvas A to do! Arghh, what have I started?! It's pretty taxing keeping in the lines too. Very tricky work. The reason I began on B, not A was down to a significant mark on canvas B which looked like a tea stain. I couldn't cope with it being there so I painted over it with black and that was the starting point for the background. I just went around the canvas from there, painting every other section in black and leaving white in between.
I really liked the colours used in the original pictures but I wanted to carry on with rainbow inspiration for this piece so I decided to colour the circles in all colours of the rainbow rather than just one or two. I started today with blue on the largest circle; blue because of the NHS and I wanted this to be the dominant colour. It worked out by chance that I'd drawn enough for each colour to be used on two circles, with just one colour being used for three.
No yoga today as suffering with pains in left arm, wrist and pelvis.
