26/05/20 - Stress

Today I did some morning yoga and a little website work which were both quite helpful in terms of my mood and how I am feeling. The blog is looking pretty good and I am happy that I am gaining more confidence to play around with the layout and colours a bit more. I still need support with the tech side of things but R is under quite a lot of pressure to help the children with their school work as well as his own commitments to his Uni course which, since lockdown, has gone online too. So he isn't always able to give me the time and support that I need, particularly with the phone/photo/social media side of things.

The national conversation has continued to focus on Cummings today, despite the fact that Boris is now talking about the next steps in easing lockdown. There is still a huge amount of anger that Cummings has refused to admit that he did anything wrong or resign from his post. Durham Police have said they will investigate his journey to Barnard Castle so I think the general feeling is that he should be treated in the same way that many others were during lockdown and receive a fine for this clear breach of the rules/guidelines. There has been a lot of discussion about this, both in the media and among friends and family. I always find this stressful because people get so set on their own views and do not always look at the bigger picture. Clearly in this situation there is a lot to consider, politically, morally and generally in view of the health of the nation as we look towards moving out of lockdown. The press have behaved despicably, ignoring social distancing, etc but there is no doubt that this news story has had a negative effect on the attitude the public now have towards the restrictions. It feels very much like business as usual outside on the roads from what I can make out, it is very noisy again with road traffic.

My stress levels always rise when there is an issue I feel strongly about but I refuse to hold my opinions in and keep them to myself just because that is what other people might prefer. I am very private for the most part and certainly don't scream and shout about things that happen in my life or in the news but in this case, as with the Brexit referendum, I am not afraid to voice my opinion. Everybody is entitled to their own views. My family may have different political views from myself, some do, some don't, but I believe we all know right from wrong and that we are all law-abiding. My point here has simply been that if the general public have been fined for breaking lockdown rules then why doesn't that law apply to to everyone including the government? It seems incredibly unfair. For me, the takeaway point from today was the fact that Cummings's trip to the Castle happened to take place on his wife's birthday!! I think that says it all really.

In order to restore calm to my day we went for an afternoon walk to Pig Leg Lane again, this time we saw a white spider which I have since discovered is a Crab Spider which can change colour to match the surroundings. Apparently they are only found in the southern half of Great Britain. It was on a big, white daisy. We took a photo on the fancy camera. I will try to get that uploaded asap.

I finished the day with some 'Yoga for Stress' before tea.
